The Parish Council regards its footpaths as a valuable parish resource for visiting ramblers and parish residents whether they are horse riders, dog walkers or leisure walkers. The footpaths in the parish are shown on the map below.
Wiltshire Council has the primary responsibility to maintain the footpaths – making sure that they are free from obstruction, that signposts are appropriate and bridges are safe. The landowner shares responsibility inasmuch as they are responsible for the above items where a footpath lies on their land.
However, reduced budgets mean that the resources to maintain the footpaths on our behalf are no longer readily available. The Parish Council has invested in its own equipment – such as saws, loppers and secateurs – to help with the maintenance of footpaths, and there are groups of residents who regularly give up their own time to do this work. Volunteers are always welcome to join in these working parties; please contact us if you have the time to do so.
